Following a government order, the Agriculture department had been bringing down the level of subsidy for agricultural inputs progressively over the years. However, the Government is of the view that in order to promote diversification of agriculture, subsidy on costly inputs is a must. Further, the need to rationalize the extent of subsidy on chemical fertilizers and pesticides for their restricted use and avoid indiscriminate use and thereby maintain soils health was also felt necessary.

Police clueless on murder of policeman at Pasighat

RUKSIN, Aug 11: The Ruksin Police is still clueless about the mysterious death of Samuel Koyu, a head constable. The police have not yet picked up or arrested any person in this regard. Even the police are unable to know the cause of the cop’s death.
Late Samuel was a native of Detak village under Nari police station, served as head constable (Telecom) at Sille Police Out Post in East Siang district. He went missing on July 30 and his lifeless body was recovered from jungle on August 3 last.

Health authority gears up to fight ‘unknown fever’ in E/Siang
PASIGHAT, Aug 11: East Siang District Health authority has appealed residents not to panic over outbreak of fever of unknown origin (FUO) in and around Pasighat township.

The district health department is gearing up efforts to investigate and control the FUO which is likely to be a vector born one transmitted through infected mosquitoes, the officers opined after they held a threadbare discussion.
The public are requested to protect themselves from mosquito bite by using mosquito bed net while sleeping. They further suggested people to visit the nearest health centre for examination in case of any doubt.
The District Medical Officer has instructed all the medical officers, staff of CHCs, PHCs & SCs not to go for leave and those who are on leave are also directed to report for duty in their respective posting places.
A Committee of doctors has been formed to look into the fever cases by Jt. DHS, (T&R), Pasighat. Under the leadership of Dr. B. Apum, MD Microbiologist, 118 samples have been collected and sent to ICMR Dibrugarh for investigation. The District Surveillance Unit under the administrative control at DMO Pasighat is working round the clock to control the outbreak.
The rapid responds team of the district surveillance Committee under the chairman of Deputy Commissioner, East Siang District have also been alerted and kept ready to combat any untoward incident.

SC dismisses contempt petition
ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The Supreme Court of India on Thursday dismissed a contempt petition, while hearing the Contempt Petition (No. 278/2012) against Gadam Ete and Interim Application (No. 05/2012) filed by petitioner Duter Padu to allow her to take oath as MLA of 30 Aalo West Assembly Constituency. The SC also confirmed that Ete shall continue in his office till final disposal of the appeal.

Mega health camp
ITANAGAR, Aug 11: Over 800 patients were treated by a team of specialists doctors from Seppa District Hospital and RK Mission Hospital (RKMH), Itanagar in a mega Health camp organized by All Aka Students Union (AASU) at Bana on August 8 and 9.
The villagers and patients were also given general health tips to stay healthy by the doctors.
Bana area is known as Malaria endemic zone. The area is also prone to water borne diseases like, dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid, diarrhea besides malaria. The people here also suffer from minor skin diseases during monsoon.

ITANAGAR, Aug 11: As a part of 66th Independence Day celebration 2012, the various sports activities were kicked off at Sagalee in Papum Pare district on Friday. The sports meet is being organized by Sagalee Bazar Welfare Committee (SBWC). Kicking off the volleyball tournament Anchal Samity Chairperson Nabam Yakum lauded Committee’s efforts in organizing the sports event. AAPBSU cautions against illegal immigration
ITANAGAR, Aug 11: All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students’ Union (AAPBSU) has strongly appealed to the Home Ministry and Chief Secretary to direct the deputy commissioners of various boundary districts to check illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Inner Line Permit (ILP) from time to time.
The students’ union claimed that thousands of illegal migrants from Bangladeshis are slipping into Capital Complex in the name of wage labour without obtaining proper ILP. The union appealed to the ILP issuing authority to verify the documents of applicants properly before issuing ILP. Apprehending possible outbreak of situation like Kokrjahar, Assam, the union cautioned the state government to take preventive measures before it is too late.
Bandh called off
ITANAGAR, Aug 11: All Lower Subansiri Students’ Union (ALSSU) today called off its proposed 36 hours Lower Subansiri district on 14 and 15th August next. In a release the union stated that the proposed 36 hours bandh was called off following the assurance from deputy commissioner to stop unauthorized construction within government land and office premises. The district administration had clearly directed the concern head of departments to report about illegal construction to district administration and also directed the estate officer of the district to take necessary steps for the eviction of encroachment of government land, the release said.

Youths seek adequate police force
